Regarded as the "Hub of the Muskoka Lakes", the town of Port Carling is located on the Indian River, between Lakes Rosseau and Lake Muskoka. A system of locks along the Indian River allows boat traffic to travel between the two Muskoka lakes. Tourists stop at Port Carling's lock-side park to watch boat traffic navigate the in-town lock, and to see the drawbridge that rises frequently for larger boats throughout the summer. The park beside the lock is a great place to picnic, or just sit and watch the steady stream of boat traffic and tourists in-town for a day of shopping and seeing the sights. This pretty little Muskoka town has a main street lined with all types of shops, restaurants and galleries. During the summer months Port Carling is hopping, and although it is much quieter off-season, it is still worth a visit.

A clean and healthy lake that is incredibly clear, Lake Joseph has many shoals, reefs, drops offs, and bays with good weed beds. Providing the ideal habitat for many varieties of fish, this Muskoka lake is teeming with fish, and is famous for its lake trout and smallmouth bass.
